Make Live Photos from Video or GIF

Learn how to transform standard MP4, MOV videos, or GIFs into iOS Live Photos designed for iPhone wallpapers.

Overview

A major feature of LivePhoto.Online is our ability to convert common video formats (MP4, MOV) and animated GIFs directly into Live Photos. If you want to create a stunning moving wallpaper for your iPhone lock screen out of your favorite anime clip, movie scene, or meme, you have come to the right place.

We offer two distinct tools to achieve this:

Both tools share a powerful interface built to offer fine precision and excellent quality, processing entirely offline via FFmpeg web tools.

How to Create a Live Photo

Step 1: Upload your Media

Drag and drop your Video (MP4/MOV) or GIF into the drop zone.

Note: The maximum file size supported is 100 MB.

Step 2: Trim the Perfect Loop

Use our in-browser Interactive Timeline to cut out the best parts of your video. For an optimal, smooth-running wallpaper experience, we highly recommend keeping your Live Photo clipping length between 1 to 3 seconds. Trimming it accurately ensures that the movement smoothly loops on an iOS Lock Screen.

Step 3: Adjust Aspect Ratios and Dimensions

A key requirement for great Live Wallpapers is having the correct phone screen size. To avoid messy cropping:

  1. Select the correct Aspect Ratio (ex. 9:16 for a portrait iPhone screen).
  2. Adjust your clip's scale/zoom.
  3. If adjusting the ratio leaves empty black bars, select a custom Background Fill Color so it seamlessly blends.

Step 4: Export to iOS

Click Export to generate an iOS-friendly .mov payload. You'll then execute the final step using our official Save Live Photo iOS Shortcut to natively register it as a Live Photo on your Camera Roll!

FAQs

Will the exported Live Photo have audio?

Yes! If you upload a video with an audio track, the final exported .mov will retain its audio. If you upload a GIF, it will remain silent natively.

Why is my video not converting?

Ensure that your final video output is not too excessively long. For lengths beyond 6-10 seconds, modern iPhones may fail to properly loop them as Live Wallpapers due to file size constraints applied by iOS. We suggest compressing your video lengths.
