Set a Live Photo as your iOS Wallpaper
A complete guide on taking your converted .mov asset and using an iOS Apple Shortcut to natively save it to your iPhone Camera Roll as a moving Live Photo background.
What is the Restriction?
When you use our Video to Live Photo Converter or GIF to Live Photo Converter tools, the final output you download is a .mov file configured with special metadata properties designed for the Apple ecosystem.
However, because iOS's Safari/Chrome mobile browsers have intense sandbox security constraints, no website on the internet can 'force' your iPhone's Camera Roll to merge an image and a video together automatically! This means if you just save a .mov to your camera roll from a web browser, it will only register as a normal video clip—not a Live Photo that bursts to life when pressed!
The Ultimate Solution: Our Apple Shortcut
To override this browser sandbox limitation securely, you must pipe the .mov through Apple's native "Shortcuts" App.
Step 1: Download our Safe Shortcut
If you haven't opened the Apple "Shortcuts" (shortcut apps come preinstalled on iOS 13+ devices), do so. Then, install our verified custom shortcut block: Save Live Photo Shortcut Link.
- Click on the Shortcut Link on your iPhone.
- Select "Add Shortcut".
Step 2: Push your generated .MOV into the Shortcut
- Use LivePhoto.Online on your mobile browser (Safari/Chrome). Note: If you generated it on a PC/Mac, you must send the
.movpayload to your iPhone first using AirDrop or email. - After hitting 'Export' on our web generator, simply Tap the resulting file and select "Share" (the iOS Share Sheet with the arrow pointing up).
- Scroll down your Share Sheet. You will now see
"Save Live Photo"prominently listed in the actions list. - Tap that action! Wait for the confirmation tick.
Step 3: Apply the Wallpaper!
Open up your iPhone's native Photos App. Right at the very bottom, you will see a newly generated image with a tiny 'LIVE' icon nestled in the corner.
- Tap on it. It should playback your motion loop when held!
- Hit the "Share" button and choose "Use as Wallpaper".
- Admire your new dynamically moving Lock Screen!
Note: If you are encountering static issues where your image refuses to move, double check your iOS version! Starting on iOS 16 and iOS 17, Apple heavily restricts the 'Moving' capabilities on Lock Screens somewhat. Long pressing on iOS 17 Lock Screens might not support Live Photo playback perfectly depending on your particular device format.
